At Pottering & Co we love to focus on container gardens. They provide enormous versatility in what they offer to indoor and outdoor, large and small spaces. They can be used alone or in groups to accent the entrances to your house or to create seasonal focal points in large gardens. They can give smaller spaces like decks, verandahs, balconies a lush ambience. When used indoors, container gardens not only provide health benefits, they also give your home a sense of freshness and style.
You can also plant a large variety of plants in container gardens, from single species houseplants to more complex multi planted containers that make a big statement. Plant all annuals - perhaps a mass of bright petunias, or perennials - showy variegated grasses or plant a mixture of both - a lemon tree with an pansy underplanting.
We also love that containers can be almost anything. Beautifully classic terracotta, ceramic pots and modern lightweight planters come in all shapes, colours and sizes. For quirkier container options, we also count repurposed things like wheelbarrows and bathtubs. There are an endless number of container and plant combinations, we help you find the right one for you.
How we work
Inspiration
You can send us images of something you've seen and fallen in love with from websites such as Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook or books and magazines. We can recreate it for you or suggest an alternative if what you've chosen isn't available, appropriate for our climate or a particular aspect. We can also consult with you, design and create a container planting for you based on your favourite plants, colours, themes, pots, etc. If you have a clear idea of what you would like we waive the consultation fee. For example, you've asked us for a 40cm terracotta pot planted with beautiful hot pink petunias to be delivered to your friend for her birthday. Coming to your home to discuss the appropriate areas for container gardens and what would be the best plantings attracts a consultation and design fee. See our consultation services for more information.
We source
After you decide what sort of container and plants you'd like, we do all the legwork to find you the best quality and the most cost effective plants and containers. Great for time poor people who want to get into gardening first thing rather than spending a good chunk of their day researching, travelling to garden centres and pot shops. Also handy for those who have limited access to transport or find it difficult to lug pots, plants and bags of potting mix in and out of cars. Great for beginner parents who would like to garden with their kids but are unsure where to start.
We deliver or you can pick-up
We can deliver the whole kit and kaboodle, container, potting mix and plants and if requested other garden related tools and equipment. Or you can pick up from Caulfield North.
PLANTING
You can choose to pot up the plants yourself. We provide an instruction and care plan specific to the plants that you have chosen. Or we can potter together - we can stay, and help you with this job and you can ask us any questions that you may have. Great for those new to gardening. We're also happy to plant your container for you if that’s what you’d prefer. We offer follow-up maintenance and care options as well. For those who choose seasonal plantings, we can also organise to refresh your container plants at the appropriate times.
We're happy to accommodate a spectrum of requests from single species house plants and small succulent pots to more complex multi-planted containers, like our bulb lasagnes (see our Mother’s Day Workshop). All requests count in our quest to help people to pot plants.
