Designer and maker Louise Martiensen started her ceramic journey over 15 years ago after falling in love with the medium while studying at university. Louise started making her own pottery to experiment with techniques and make pieces that were different to what else was available.

"We believe in the power of thoughtful design to make our lives better."

Louise now runs LouiseM Studio, a ceramics practice in Marrickville, in Sydney. Working primarily in porcelain, her pieces are created at a small scale utilising the slip-casting technique as a base, and adding to each piece with individual colouring, carving, pressing or glazing techniques, ensuring no two pieces are the same.

“As frivolous as having nice homewares might seem sometimes, it does make a difference to have beautiful objects in our lives.”
